3 Reasons Why EVERYONE Should Paint
Why is it that so many of us enjoyed painting and art as kids, but have somehow lost that passion growing up? We don’t know the answer, but what we do know is that it’s never too late to start painting again. There are many health benefits to be gained from painting, even for those who haven’t done it in years. We’ve boiled these benefits down to our picks for the top 3.
- Therapeutic Benefits – Painting is incredibly relaxing and can help reduce your stress levels. While painting, you’ll be able to focus specifically on what you are creating and let everything else go. This has a similar effect on your body as meditation. The result is a positive mindset and a different outlook on the world around you.
- Unleashed Creativity – Believe it or not, we all have the makings of a creative genius inside us. Unleashing your creativity allows you to expand your abilities and gain self confidence. The joy of painting comes less from the quality of the painting and more from the satisfaction of creating something amazing yourself. After all, art is an expression of your personality and creativity, which is what makes each piece unique.
- Concentration & Perseverance – Creating a painting from start to finish takes time and dedication. During this process mistakes and challenges are constantly being made and overcome. Pushing through this helps improve your ability to concentrate and persevere through new challenges. Taking on a new painting can feel daunting at first, but it’s a highly gratifying experience that will have you wanting more.
There you have it, 3 of the top reasons to start painting more often. One of the best ways to get started is by attending a local painting class or event. This can help ease you into painting, rather than just gathering the supplies and doing everything on your own. For those of you in Utah, The Paint Mixer offers local instructed painting events in SLC and Park City. Not in Utah? Take a few minutes to find a local paint studio near you. You’ll be shocked by the positive impact painting will have on your life.

My daughter needs to have an outlet for her temper so going to a painting workshop should hopefully have some therapeutic benefits for her. If it will unleash her creativity, maybe she will learn to be more patient in making art. As long as she learns to concentrate and persevere in a class, she should be able to create a piece that reflects her inner self which will really help her shine.

Hi Sariah,
We strive to make our studios the perfect peaceful, judge free space. If you are in Utah, we’d love for you and/or your daughter to join us in SLC or Park City for some creative fun!

I like how you mentioned that painting is incredibly relaxing and can help reduce your stress levels. I used to paint all the time when I was younger, and always loved it. I have been under a lot of stress lately, and have been trying to find good stress-relievers. After reading your article and learning about how painting is good at relieving stress, I will definitely look into starting to paint again.

I had never considered that painting helps you have a positive mindset and different outlook. Another benefit of painting would be that you are able to see a job well done and inspire others. I’ll have to look into a store that sells paint and then see what I can do with it.

I like how you included that painting is relaxing and can help reduce your stress levels. My sister was thinking about starting painting because she has actually been very stressed lately and was wondering if it could help at all. I’ll make sure to pass this information along to her if she does decide to start painting.

It’s awesome that you can reduce your stress levels just by painting! I’ve been looking for a creative outlet, so I think that it would be cool to learn to paint. There’s so much room for free expression!

It’s interesting that you mention that painting is a great way to relax. I’ve been looking for a new way to relax after all the stress I experience at work, so I’m thinking about taking a watercolor painting course online. I’m going to look for a good business that offers online courses in watercolor painting.
Nick says
That is a great idea! We have online courses on our Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUhkf1q_KMUblPrQAIYzK4w as well as Paint From Home Kits on our site under Classes & Camps > Create From Home if you need supplies!

It’s good to know that painting has a similar effect on a person’s body as mediation and that it has excellent therapeutic benefits because it’s incredibly relaxing. My sister is suffering from clinical depression after she had a miscarriage. Maybe it would help her is I pay for a complete monthly painting kit subscription to see if it would help her with her grief. Thanks for this.

I appreciate that this post mentioned that one of the benefits of painting is that it is very therapeutic and can help in reducing stress levels. The other day my wife mentioned that she is stressed from work. I will recommend her to take up a virtual painting class to help cope with stress.

It’s great that you talked about painting and how it comes with stress-reducing perks. Recently, I decided I’d like to start a hobby. I really love art, but I’ve never tried painting something, so I’ll look into it! Thanks for the information on how paint changes the way we see the world.

I was hesitant at first when I enrolled my kids in the online painting class of an International School in the Philippines ( http://www.georgia.edu.ph ) because they might get bored since the classes are online. But after attending 2 sessions, I saw their excitement during their classes since the teacher is very engaging and the artworks are very thematic. I highly suggest that you let your child engage in any painting classes as early as preschooler age. This can really help in the development of your child’s artistic and critical thinking skills. Thank you for sharing this article. More power!
